Convertible Top Frame

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Always put an automatic transmission in P (Park) or a manual transmission in N (Neutral) and set the park brake before raising or lowering the convertible top. If you raise or lower the convertible top while the vehicle is in motion, you could damage the top or the top mechanism.
    Caution: Do not lower the top in cold weather. If you lower the convertible top on the vehicle in cold weather (0°C (32°F) or lower), you may damage convertible top components.
    Caution: Always verify that no objects are in the storage area before lowering the convertible top. Lowering the convertible top when there are objects in the storage area could damage it or break the glass rear window.
    Caution: Dry off the convertible top before lowering it. Lowering the convertible top if it is damp, wet, or dirty can cause stains, mildew, and damage to the inside of the vehicle.
  1. Apply a double layer of masking tape around the lower rear roof perimeter of all the painted surfaces prior to the removal.
  2. Key On – Engine Off.
  3. Place all the windows in the full down position.
  4. Lower the folding top.
  5. Key Off.
  6. Remove both quarter upper trim panel. Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement.
  7. Remove the right quarter trim panel. Refer to Quarter Trim Panel Replacement.
  8. Note: The rear seat back and quarter trim Must be out of the vehicle at this point to access the wire harness.
  9. Disconnect the rear window defogger harness located on the right side of vehicle near the folding top pivot bracket. With the right quarter trim panel off, access the rear window defogger harness plug.
  10. Place the folding top in the half way open position.
  11. Remove the high mount stop lamp. Refer to High Mount Stop Lamp Replacement.
  12. Note: When removing the folding stowage compartment bracket (2), the nut and washer (1) must be marked prior to the removal, this will allow the folding top bracket to realign when reinstalling.
  13. Remove the folding top stowage compartment bracket nut and washer (1) and bracket (2).

  14. Remove the quarter panel upper rear moldings. Refer to Quarter Panel Upper Rear Molding Replacement.
  15. Disconnect the upper seal of the outer quarter drain panel from the pinchweld flange.
  16. Roll the upper seal on the outer quarter drain panel inward and down so that it will not catch on the ends of the screws for the compartment bracket when removing.
  17. Raise the quarter window to the full up position.
  18. Open the rear compartment to view what Quarter Outer Drain system the vehicle is equipped with. Refer to Folding Top Quarter Outer Drain Panel Replacement.
  19. Note: Ensure that the grommets remains in place for the rear drain tubes which are located in the gutter of the rear compartment. The front drain tubes do not have grommets and are seated through a hole located in each upper quarter panel 2.
  20. Disconnect both water drain tube ends from the rear compartment gutter (1) and from the quarter panels (2), left and right side.

  21. Lower the quarter windows to the full down position.
  22. With the folding top in a halfway open position, this will allow access to the left and right rear side bolts 1 of the pivot bracket 2.

  23. Note: Do this with an assistant, Do not disconnect the hydraulic cylinder from the lower bracket. Pull back enough to release the clip (2) from the ball stud, Do Not remove the clip.
  24. Release the hydraulic cylinder clips (2) and disconnect them from the top of the ball stud (1) on the left and right side.

  25. Lower the folding top into the stowage area.
  26. Key On – Engine Off lower the hydraulic cylinder to the full down position Key Off.
  27. Remove the folding top pivot bracket front bolt (1).

  28. Note: Use Care when lifting the folding top quarter drain panel from the stowage compartment so that it will not catch the stud ends of the bracket.
  29. With an assistant remove the folding top frame assembly (1) from the vehicle.

  30. Place the folding top on a clean and dry surface with the top side (1) down and in the full open position.

Installation Procedure

    Note: Ensure that the number 5 bow weatherstrip and the folding top quarter outer drain panel is attached well to the number 5 bow retainer before installing.
  1. With an assistant, place the folding top frame assembly (1) in the stowage compartment as follows:

    1. When installing the folding top frame assembly it must be installed all the way to the right side of the stowage compartment as it is lowered.
    2. Slide the folding top frame assembly to the left side (Driver Side).
    3. Lower the left side (Driver Side) of the folding top frame assembly onto the pivot bracket studs.
    Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution.
  2. Install the folding top pivot bracket front bolts (1) to bracket (2), tighten to 24 Nm (18 lb ft).

  3. Key On – Engine Off, raise the hydraulic cylinder to engage the ball stud.
  4. Connect the hydraulic cylinder to the ball stud, ensure that the clips (2) to the hydraulic cylinder (1), left and right side are locked in place.

  5. Key On – Engine Off, place the folding top frame in the half open position.
  6. Install the folding top pivot bracket Rear bolts (1) to bracket (2), tighten to 24 Nm (18 lb ft).

  7. Key On – Engine Off, raise both quarter windows to the full up position.
  8. Install the vehicle with the correct Quarter Outer Drain system. Refer to Folding Top Quarter Outer Drain Panel Replacement.
  9. Connect the quarter outer drain panel tubes (1) through the rear compartment gutter grommets on the left and right side.

  10. Install the quarter panel drain tubes (2) through the quarter panel on the left and right side.
  11. Lower the quarter windows to the full down position.
  12. Raise the quarter outer drain panel seal and install to the pinchweld flange.
  13. Inspection is needed to ensure that the bag material is not bunching in the corners, which may create an interference with the folding top #5 bow during cycling. Two examples of the water management bag (1) interfering with the #5 bow (2) travel.

  14. Failure to assure proper clearance of the folding top to the water management bag could result in damage to the #5 bow and/or brackets, Do the following steps to ensure proper installation:
  15. Manually open the trunk using the cylinder located in the left quarter trim panel and the ignition key.
  16. Finesse the fit of the water management bag by reaching inside the trunk and pulling any excess material downward on both sides.
    Inspect both side corners of the water management bag for excess bunching. If the bag pleats are able to be pulled inboard covering the outboard stud on the stowage compartment bracket (as shown circled in the graphic above), the excess material will need to be repositioned following the steps below:

  17. Gather together several of the excess pleats/folds of bag material.

  18. Push the pleats toward the trunk, then pull the pleats and bag material taut, and position the folds next to the outboard bracket stud.

  19. Install the stowage compartment bracket to studs.

  20. Note: The nuts and washers (1) Must be reinstalled to the marked location on the stowage compartment bracket (2), refer to step 12 of the removal in this procedure.
  21. Install the stowage compartment bracket, capturing the folds beneath the bracket (2) then the bracket nuts and washers (1) and tighten to 22 Nm (16 lb ft).

  22. The repositioned water management bag should look like the view shown above. The bag should be positioned completely outboard the #5 bow seal (1), and should have no interference with the bow/seal during top cycling.

  23. Install the quarter panel upper rear moldings. Refer to Quarter Panel Upper Rear Molding Replacement.
  24. Install the high mount stop lamp. Refer to High Mount Stop Lamp Replacement.
  25. Connect the rear window defogger harness located on the right side of vehicle. The right quarter trim panel off, access the rear window defogger harness plug.
  26. Install the right quarter trim panel. Refer to Quarter Trim Panel Replacement.
  27. Install upper quarter panel trim panels. Refer to Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement.
  28. Remove the double layer of masking tape from around the lower rear roof opening perimeter.
  29. Place the folding top in the lock position, check for appearance and fit.
  30. Inspect the front edge of the folding top to windshield upper frame for a good seal.
  31. Water test the vehicle to ensure a proper water tight seal.

Removal Procedure

    Note: The folding top latch actuator linkage is not serviceable. The folding top number 1 bow and latch actuator linkage MUST be replaced as an assembly.
  1. Place all the windows in the full down position.
  2. Place the folding top assembly in a halfway open position allowing access to the number 1 bow hardware.
  3. Remove the screws (1) from the front folding top cover retainer.

  4. Remove the retainer (2) from the front edge of the number 1 bow.
  5. Remove the folding top side garnish molding assembly, left and right side. Refer to Folding Top Side Rail Garnish Molding Replacement.
  6. Remove the number 1 bow stop screws (1), left and right side.

  7. remove the headliner retainer screws (1) to the edge of the folding top side garnish molding (2).

  8. Note: The folding top cover hooks over the number 1 bow stop retaining edge.
  9. Remove the folding top cover edge (1) from the number 1 bow stop retaining edge (2), left and right side.

  10. Note: Mark the location of the side tension cable spring to the number 1 bow for reinstalling.
  11. Remove the side tension cable spring screw (1) from the number 1 bow, left and right side.

  12. Remove the side tension cable spring (1) from the number 1 bow (2), pulling the cable spring through the hole in the bow, left and right side.

  13. Note: The folding top cover bead is pressed into the retaining edge located under the front edge of the number 1 bow.

    Starting at one end, pull upward releasing it from the retaining edge of the number 1 bow.
  14. Remove the folding top cover (1) from the number 1 bow (2) front edge.

  15. Remove the number 1 bow garnish molding. Refer to Folding Top Number 1 Bow Garnish Molding Replacement.
  16. Remove the rivets (1) that attach the center elastic tension cords (2) to the number 1 bow, left and right side.

  17. Release the front section of headliner (1) from the number 1 bow retainers.

  18. Remove the number 1 bow clips (1) and pins (2) from the folding top side linkage, left and right side.

  20. Remove the number 1 bow from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the number 1 bow (1) to the folding top side linkage, left and right side.

  2. Install the number 1 bow pins (2) and clips (1) to the folding top side linkage, left and right side.

  3. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution.
    Note: Install the cable through the seam of the headliner.
  4. Install the rivets (1) that attach the center elastic tension cords (2) to the number 1 bow, left and right side.

  6. Install the number 1 bow garnish molding. Refer to Folding Top Number 1 Bow Garnish Molding Replacement.
  7. Note: The folding top cover bead hooks to the retaining edge located on the front edge of the number 1 bow.
  8. Install the folding top cover (1) to the number 1 bow (2) front edge.

  9. Install the side tension cable spring (1) to the number 1 bow, Refer to step 9 in the removal, left and right side.

  15. Install the headliner retainer screws (1) to the edge of the folding top side garnish molding (2).

  16. Install the folding top cover front retainer.
  17. Install the retainer screws (1) to the front edge of the number 1 bow, tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb in)

  18. Place the folding top in the lock position, check for appearance and fit.
  19. Inspect the front edge of the folding top to the windshield frame for a good seal.
  20. Water test the vehicle to ensure a proper water tight seal.

Removal Procedure

  1. Place all windows in the full down position.
  2. Place the folding top assembly in a halfway open position.
  3. Remove the number 1 bow. Refer to Folding Top Number 1 Bow Replacement
  4. Detach the headliner as necessary. Only do those steps in the headliner replacement procedure that will gain access to the part. Refer to Folding Top Headlining Trim Panel Replacement.
  5. Remove the rivets (1) from the side straps (2) being serviced.

  6. Warning: Use the proper eye protection when drilling to prevent metal chips from causing physical injury.
    Note: The replacement rivets MUST be steel/stainless steel to prevent corrosion. Always check scale, to size the drill. Do Not over size hole. The rivet hole does not go through the number 3 bow. If the rivet hole is drilled through apply a layer of cloth tape over the hole before reinstalling the top cover.
  7. Protect the inside of the vehicle from metal shavings while drilling.

  8. Drill (1) out the two rivets (2) from the end of the bow bracket being serviced.
  9. Separate the number 2 bow from the number 2 bow bracket after drilling.
  10. Note: The folding top assembly Must be in a halfway open position.
  11. Remove the clip (1) from the pin (2), the pin is welded to the counterbalance link. Reposition the counterbalance link this will allow the removal of the bow bracket from the side rail link.

  12. Lift the number 2 bow bracket (2) out of the top side rail link, take note of the number 2 bow bushing (1) and washer for reinstalling.

  13. Remove the number 2 bow bracket (2) from the number 2 bow (3).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the number 2 bow bracket bushing (1) and washer to the bow number (2) bracket, refer to step 8 in the removal procedure.
  2. Note: The folding top assembly must be in a halfway open position, this will allow access to the number 2 bow bracket.
  3. Install the number 2 bow bracket (2) to the side rail link.

  4. Install the clip (1) to the pin (2) which is welded to the counterbalance link, repositioning the counterbalance link will allow it's reinstalling.

  5. Note: The replacement rivets MUST be steel/stainless steel to prevent corrosion. Always check scale, to size the drill. Do Not over size hole. The rivet hole does not go through the number 3 bow. If the rivets hole is drilled through apply a layer of cloth tape over the hole before installing the top cover.
  6. Use a suitable tool install the two rivets (1) to the number 2 bow and bracket, to this dimension 4.79 mm (3/16 in) 10.9 mm (0.42 in).

  7. Install the number 1 bow. Refer to Folding Top Number 1 Bow Replacement.
  8. Reattach the headliner side straps as marked in the prior removal in this procedure. Refer to Folding Top Headlining Trim Panel Replacement.
  9. Inspect the front edge of the folding top to windshield frame for a good seal.
  10. Place the folding top in the lock position.
  11. Water test the vehicle to ensure a proper water tight seal.

Removal Procedure

    Note: When removing the folding top cover, headliner or bow it is important to mark the directions of the material to the bow, forward or rearward.
  1. Place the folding top assembly in a halfway open position. Refer to Folding Top Number 1 Bow Replacement.
  2. Mark the end of bow that is being serviced on the left side (Driver Side).
  3. Remove the rivets (1) that attach the side straps (2) to the folding top side rail link on the left and right side.

  4. Note: The folding top assembly Must be in a halfway open position allowing access to the number 2 bow.
  5. Protect the interior of the vehicle from metal shavings while drilling.
  6. Warning: Use the proper eye protection when drilling to prevent metal chips from causing physical injury.
    Note: The replacement rivets MUST be steel/stainless steel to prevent corrosion. Always check scale, to size the drill. Do Not over size hole.
    Note: The rivets Must be drilled below the inner surface of the bow hole in order to slide bow bracket from the bow.
  7. Use a drill (1), remove two rivet heads (2) from each end of the bow (4), to this dimension 4.79 mm (3/16 in) (10.9 mm (.4.25 in).

  8. Separate the number 2 bow from the bow bracket from either.
  9. Remove the clip (1) and pin (2) from the number 2 bow (4) from the folding top side rail link on the left and right side.

  10. Remove the number 2 bow bracket from the folding top side rail link as follows:

    1. Take note the placement of the number 2 bow bushing (1) and washer for reinstalling on the left and right side.
    2. Separate the number 2 bow bracket from the folding top side rail link.
  11. Pull the number 2 bow (2) out of the left side (Driver Side).

Installation Procedure

    Note: Do Not install the number 2 bow brackets until after the bow has been installed to the folding top cover and headliner.
    Note: Start the folding top cover and headliner retaining bead in the tracks at the beveled end of the number 2 bow, while working the material back and forth sliding the bow in place.
  1. Install number 2 bow as follows:

    1. Install the number 2 bow to right side (Passenger Side) only, the left side end is beveled to start the retaining bead of the material.
    2. Work the folding top cover (2) and the headliner material (3) in bow tracks (4), located on each side of the bow.
    3. Ensure that the folding top cover and headliner is install to the bow completely before install the bow bracket.
  2. Install number 2 bow and brackets to each side of the folding top side rail link.
  3. Install the pin (2) and clip (1) to the number 2 bow brackets (4) to the folding top side rail link on the left and right side.

  4. Install the number 2 bow to the bow bracket.
  5. Note: The replacement rivets MUST be steel/stainless steel to prevent corrosion. Always check scale, to size the drill. Do Not over size hole.
  6. Use a suitable tool, install the two rivets (1) to both ends of the number 2 bow, to this dimension 4.79 mm (3/16 in) (10.9 mm (0.4.2 in).
  7. Install the number 1 bow. Refer to Folding Top Number 1 Bow Replacement.
  8. Using a suitable, install the rivets (1) that attach the side straps (2) to the folding top side link on the left and right side.

  9. Place the folding top in the lock position, check for appearance and fit.
  10. Inspect the front edge of the folding top to windshield frame for a good seal.
  11. Water test the vehicle to ensure a proper water tight seal.

Removal Procedure

  1. Prior to the removal of the folding top, mark the left side (Driver Side) well using masking tape to avoid confusion from left to right when on a working surface.
  2. Remove the folding top frame assembly from the vehicle. Refer to Folding Top Frame Removal and Installation.
  3. The folding top assembly must be top face down and in the open position to allow access to the number 3 bow lower.

  4. Note: Marked the locations of the side straps prior to the removal.
  5. It is only necessary to loosen the headliner. Only do those steps in the headliner replacement procedure that will gain access to the part. Refer to Folding Top Headlining Trim Panel Replacement.
  6. Loosen the folding top cover as necessary to allow access to bow to slide out of the side of the top assembly. Refer to Folding Top Cover Replacement.
  7. When removing the bow, its IMPORTANT to mark the directions of the material in each bow, (forward or rearward).
  8. Mark the left side (Driver Side) end of the bow this will assist in the reinstalling.
  9. Place a protective cover between the folding top cover and bow to protect the folding top cover from metal shavings while drilling.
  10. Warning: Use the proper eye protection when drilling to prevent metal chips from causing physical injury.
    Note: The replacement rivets MUST be steel/stainless steel to prevent corrosion. Always check scale, to size the drill. Do Not over size hole.
  11. Use a drill (1), remove two rivet heads (2) from each end of the bow (3) lower, to this dimension 4.79 mm (3/16 in) (10.9 mm (.4.25 in).

  12. Remove the number 3 bow lower (1) from the left side (Driver Side).

  13. Remove the rivets from the bow as follows:
    1. Use a vise or equivalent to secure the bow for drilling.
    2. Measure in from the end of the bow 6 inches on the underside of the bow, drill a (10 mm (.39 in) hole this will allow the remaining parts of the rivet to be removed.
    3. Use a suitable tool, knock out the remaining lower part of the rivet in to the bow.
    4. Tip the bow to one end and shake the bow until the remaining rivet is removed from the bow.
    5. Cover the (10 mm (.39 in) hole with tape before installing the bow to the frame.

Installation Procedure

    Note: The end of the retaining channels of the bow are chamfered to assist when install the folding top cover or headliner.
  1. Install the number 3 bow lower (1) to the right side (Passenger Side) Not the left side (Driver Side).

  2. Reattach the folding top cover and headliner trim as follows:
    1. Install the number 3 bow lower through the right side (Passenger Side) of the frame only.
    2. Start the folding top cover retaining bead and the headliner retaining bead about one inch into the beveled edges of the bow track .
    3. Working the folding top cover and headliner material down the bow until fully seated in both tracks.
    Note: The replacement rivets MUST be steel/stainless steel to prevent corrosion. Always check scale, to size the drill. Do Not over size hole.
  3. Use a suitable tool install the two rivets (1) to both ends of the number 3 bow lower, to this dimension 4.79 mm (3/16 in) (10.9 mm (0.4.2 in).

  4. Install the folding top cover attachments as necessary.
  5. Reattach the headliner as necessary. Refer to Folding Top Headlining Trim Panel Replacement.
  6. Install the folding top frame assembly to the vehicle. Refer to Folding Top Frame Removal and Installation.
  7. Place the folding top in the lock position, check for appearance and fit.
  8. Inspect the front edge of the folding top to windshield frame for a good seal.
  9. Water test the vehicle to ensure a proper water tight seal.

  12. Remove the number 3 bow upper (1) from the left side (Driver Side).

  13. Remove the rivets from the bow as follows:
    1. Use a vise or equivalent to secure the bow for drilling.
    2. Measure in from the end of the bow 6 inches on the underside of the bow, drill a (10 mm (.39 in) hole this will allow the remaining parts of the rivet to be removed.
    3. Use a suitable tool, knock out the remaining lower part of the rivet in to the bow.
    4. Tip the bow to one end and shake the bow until the remaining rivet is removed from the bow.
    5. Cover the (10 mm (.39 in) hole with tape before installing the bow to the frame.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the number 3 bow upper (1) to the right side (Passenger Side) Not the left side (Driver Side).

  2. Reattach the folding top cover and headliner trim as follows:
    1. Install the number 3 bow upper through the right side (Passenger Side) of the frame only.
    2. Start the folding top cover retaining bead and the headliner retaining bead about one inch into the beveled edges of the bow track .
    3. Working the folding top cover and headliner material down the bow until fully seated in both tracks.
    Note: The replacement rivets MUST be steel/stainless steel to prevent corrosion. Always check scale, to size the drill. Do Not over size hole.
  3. Use a suitable tool install the two rivets (1) to both ends of the number 3 bow upper, to this dimension 4.79 mm (3/16 in) (10.9 mm (0.4.2 in).

  4. Install the folding top cover attachments as necessary. Refer to Folding Top Cover Replacement.
  5. Reattach the headliner as necessary. Refer to Folding Top Headlining Trim Panel Replacement.
  6. Install the folding top frame assembly to the vehicle. Refer to Folding Top Frame Removal and Installation.
  7. Place the folding top in the lock position, check for appearance and fit.
  8. Inspect the front edge of the folding top to windshield frame for a good seal.
  9. Water test the vehicle to ensure a proper water tight seal.

Removal Procedure

  1. Prior to the removal of the folding top, mark the left side (Driver Side) well using masking tape to avoid confusion from left to right when on a working surface.
  2. Remove the folding top frame assembly from the vehicle. Refer to Folding Top Frame Removal and Installation.
  3. The folding top assembly must be top face down and in the open position to allow access to the number 4 bow.

  4. It is only necessary to loosen the headliner. Only do those steps in the headliner replacement procedure that will gain access to the part. Refer to Folding Top Headlining Trim Panel Replacement.
    1. When replacing the number 4 bow it will be necessary to lower both side of the headliner completely.
    2. Mark all the locations of the side straps prior to the removal.
    3. Roll the number 5 bow backward enough to access the rivets on the number 4 bow.
    Note: When removing the bow, its IMPORTANT to mark the directions of the material in each bow, (forward or rearward).
  5. Mark the left side (Driver Side) end of the bow this will assist in the reinstalling.
    Loosen the folding top cover as necessary to allow access to bow to slide out of the side of the top assembly. Refer to Folding Top Cover Replacement.
  6. Place a protective cover between the folding top cover and bow to protect the folding top cover from metal shavings while drilling.
  7. Warning: Use the proper eye protection when drilling to prevent metal chips from causing physical injury.
    Note: The replacement rivets MUST be steel/stainless steel to prevent corrosion. Always check scale, to size the drill. Do Not over size hole.
  8. Use a drill (1), remove two rivet heads (2) from each end of the number 4 bow, to this dimension 4.79 mm (3/16 in) (10.9 mm (.4.25 in).

  9. Remove the number 4 bow (1) from the left side (Driver Side).

  10. Remove the rivets from the bow as follows:
    1. Use a vise or equivalent to secure the bow for drilling.
    2. Measure in from the end of the bow 6 inches on the underside of the bow, drill a (10 mm (.39 in) hole this will allow the remaining parts of the rivet to be removed.
    3. Use a suitable tool, knock out the remaining lower part of the rivet in to the bow.
    4. Tip the bow to one end and shake the bow until the remaining rivet is removed from the bow.
    5. Cover the (10 mm (.39 in) hole with tape before installing the bow to the frame.

Installation Procedure

    Note: The end of the retaining channels of the bow are chamfered to assist when install the folding top cover or headliner.
  1. Install the number 4 bow (1) to the right side (Passenger Side) Not the left side (Driver Side).

  2. Reattach the folding top cover and headliner trim as follows:
    1. Install the number 4 bow through the right side (Passenger Side) of the frame only.
    2. Start the folding top cover retaining bead and the headliner retaining bead about one inch into the beveled edges of the bow track .
    3. Working the folding top cover and headliner material down the bow until fully seated in both tracks.
    Note: The replacement rivets MUST be steel/stainless steel to prevent corrosion. Always check scale, to size the drill. Do Not over size hole.
  3. Use a suitable tool install the two rivets (1) to both ends of the number 4 bow, to this dimension 4.79 mm (3/16 in) (10.9 mm (0.4.2 in).

  4. Install the folding top cover attachments as necessary.

Procedure

  1. Place the folding top assembly in a halfway open position to access the fasteners location on the number 5 bow.
  2. Use a suitable tool, hold the head of the bolt while removing the nut.
Note: Do Not remove the upper part that is riveted to the folding top number 5 bow to replace the roller bracket assembly, two bolts retain it to the bracket.
Tighten

7.7 Nm (68 lb in)

2 Folding Top Number 5 Bow Bracket

Procedure

  1. Install the number 5 bow roller bracket assembly, hand tighten the fasteners.
  2. Slide the number 5 bow roller and bracket assembly all the way forward, complete the toque.

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the folding top quarter outer drain panel. Refer to Folding Top Quarter Outer Drain Panel Replacement.
  2. Mark the location of the headliner in relation to the number 5 bow.
  3. Note: Do Not remove the headliner from frame, just from the lower part of the number 5 bow.
  4. Remove the headliner (1) from the number 5 bow track (2),

  5. Remove the folding top cover from the number 5 bow as follows:

    1. The folding top cover bead is held in place by a J type retainer.
    2. Mark the location of all the straps and elastic strips when removing the folding top cover.
    3. Note and mark on the number 5 bow with a grease pencil where the folding top cover and number 5 bow meet in the center and left side (Driver Side), this will assist in the reinstalling.
    4. Pull the folding top cover bead (1) slowly out of the number 5 bow track, this will prevent damage to the retaining bead.
  6. Remove the clips that attach the number 5 bow to the pivot bracket, left and right side.
  7. Remove the number 5 bow (1) from the folding top frame.

Installation Procedure

    Note: If installing a NEW folding top number 5 bow, transfer the marks placed on the old folding top number 5 bow to the NEW folding top number 5 bow to aid in assembling the components properly.
  1. Install the number 5 bow (1) to the folding top frame.

  2. Install the headliner (1) to the number 5 bow track (2) until fully seated in the track.

  3. Install the folding top cover to the number 5 bow as follows:
    1. The top cover bead is held in place by a J type retainer.
    2. Install all the straps and elastic strips the side linkage.
    3. Start in the center by aligning the center marks on the number 5 bow and the folding top cover.
    4. Align the mark on the number 5 bow and the folding top cover.
    5. Work the folding top cover bead until fully seated in the track of the number 5 bow.
  4. Install the folding top frame assembly to the vehicle. Refer to Folding Top Quarter Outer Drain Panel Replacement.
  5. Place the folding top in the lock position, check for appearance and fit.
  6. Inspect the front edge of the folding top to windshield frame for a good seal.
  7. Water test the vehicle to ensure a proper water tight seal.

Removal Procedure

    Note: Perform the following procedure on the side being serviced only.
  1. Remove the folding top and frame from the vehicle. Refer to Folding Top Frame Removal and Installation.
  2. Place the folding top on a clean and dry surface when being serviced.
  3. Remove the folding top side front weatherstrip. Refer to Folding Top Side Front Weatherstrip Replacement.
  4. Remove the folding top side rear weatherstrip. Refer to Folding Top Side Rear Weatherstrip Replacement.
  5. Note: Do Not remove the number 1 bow garnish molding or latch linkage from the number 1 bow.
  6. Remove the folding top front edge screws (1) and retainer (2) from the number 1 bow.

  7. Remove the folding top side rail garnish molding assembly. Refer to Folding Top Side Rail Garnish Molding Replacement.
  8. Remove the number 1 bow stop screws (1).

  17. Remove the screws (1) that attach the side tension straps (2) to the side rail.

  18. Pull the headliner (1) loose from the number 1, 2 ,3 upper, 3 lower and 4 bows (2), to expose the pins and rivets in the bows.

  19. Place a protective cover under each bow when drilling out the rivets to catch the metal shavings.

    Note: The replacement rivets MUST be steel/stainless steel to prevent corrosion. Always check scale to size of the drill. Do Not over size the hole. The rivet hole does not go all the way through the bow. If the rivets hole is drilled through, apply a layer of cloth tape over the hole before installing the folding top cover.
  21. Do this from the left side only (Driver Side), drill out two rivets (2) from the number 3, upper, 3 lower and the 4 bow from the side being serviced only to this dimension 4.79 mm (3/16 in) (10.9 mm (0.4.2 in), then pull the headliner and the folding top cover loose from the folding top frame.

  22. Remove the folding top counterbalance link. Refer to Folding Top Counterbalance Link Replacement.
  23. Note: The number 2 bow bracket pin is welded in place.
    Note: Take note the placement of the number 2 bow bushing and washer for reinstalling.
  24. Place the number 1 bow straight upward to access the clip (1) on the number 2 bracket.
    Remove the clip (1) from the retaining pin (2) that retains the number 2 bow bracket (3) to the folding top side rail link.
