Sunroof / Moonroof Interior Trim Panel

Warning: Do not attempt to repair or alter the head impact energy-absorbing material glued to the headliner or to the garnish trims. If the material is damaged, replace the headliner and/or the garnish trim. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.
Caution: Use care when working around the head curtain inflator module. Sharp tools may puncture the curtain airbag. If the head curtain inflator module is damaged in any way, it must be replaced.
Caution: If a vehicle is equipped with a head curtain inflator module ensure that the inflator module and tether are undamaged. If tether or curtain airbag are damaged in any way, they must be replaced.

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
  2. Remove the windshield side garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Side Garnish Molding Replacement.
  3. Remove the sunshade assemblies. Refer to Sunshade Replacement.
  4. Remove the sunshade supports. Refer to Sunshade Support Replacement.
  5. Remove the overhead console assembly. Refer to Roof Console Replacement.
  6. Remove the coat hooks. Refer to Coat Hook Replacement.
  7. Remove the sunroof opening trim finish lace. Refer to Sunroof Opening Trim Finish Lace Replacement.
  8. Remove the rear quarter trim panel. Refer to Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement.
  9. Remove the front seat. Refer to Front Seat Removal and Installation.
  10. Remove the instrument panel outer air outlet duct in order to allow access to unclip the harness. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Air Outlet Duct Replacement - Right Side.
  11. Move the driver seat fully forward and recline.

Procedure

  1. Prior to removal, note routing of wire harness to aid in assembly and to ensure proper installation.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
  3. Removal and installation of the headliner must be completed through the right front door opening with the aid of an assistant to prevent kinking or damage to the headliner.
  4. If replacing the headliner assembly, transfer all necessary components.
  5. If transferring or replacing the wiring harness, refer to Headlining Trim Panel Harness Replacement.

Removal Procedure

  1. Beginning at the joint on the rear center of the sunroof opening, pull the sunroof finishing lace from the sunroof window track assembly.

  2. Remove the sunroof finishing lace from the track assembly.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the end of the sunroof finishing lace at the center of the rear center of the sunroof opening.

  2. Push the finishing lace (2) onto the track assembly flange (1) until fully seated around the sunroof opening.

  3. Pull the finishing lace draw cord toward the sunroof opening. Remove the cord from the periphery of the opening.
  4. Ensure that the finishing lace (2) is properly seated over the outer surface of the headliner (3).
